Vigilant Railway Staff identifies unclaimed luggage, which is later declared as Ganja by GRP

July 24, 2019, Mr. T. Bhagya Rao, Chief Ticket Inspector, Vijayawada identified unclaimed luggage in Train no. 11020 Konark Express (Bhubaneshwar-Mumbai Express) near Duvvada, which was later declared as Ganja by Government Railway Police.

On July 24, 2019 Mr. T. Bhagya Rao signed on duty at around 22.30 hrs at Visakhapatnam, duly taking charge of all AC coaches of Train no. 11020 Konark Express (left Visakhapatnam at 22.40 hrs on 24.07.2019). While manning B5 coach Co-passengers complained to him about the suspicious luggage at Berth no. 19 & 20 which was kept there by anonymous people at Visakhapatnam Railway station and left the train. Mr. Bhagya Rao enquired every passenger in the B5 & adjacent coaches regarding the unclaimed luggage and also found that the Passengers reserved from Visakhapatnam to Kazipet in Berth nos. 18-21 of B5 coach did not turn up at Visakhapatnam. He immediately   informed On board GRP escort staff & Commercial Control/ Vijayawada about the baggage at Duvvada and requested for RPF/GRP assistance at next available station. 

Onboard GRP escorts J. Gowrishankar & T.Sasibhushan rushed to the coach immediately and enquired the co-passengers about the baggages and waited for the party to show up. After train passing Anakapalle Railway station GRP staff opened the luggage bag with the assistance of complainant and passengers of Berth No.6 & 23 and sleeper TTI Sri. Karunasagar TTI/SL/BZA found in the bags sealed packets in 4 trolley bags and 2 luggage bags containing Ganja total 36 packets weighing 81.124 Kg. The entire unclaimed luggage was handed over to RPF & GRP staff at Rajahmundry railway station by the Escort GRP. Later Mr. M. Ramesh Babu GRP Inspector, Rajahmundry after confirming it as Ganja registered the case under The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS).

Shri P. Srinivas, Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada, Shri K. Rajendra Prasad, Divisional Commercial Manager/ In-charge PRO, Shri K. Kamalakar Babu, Assistant Commercial Manager and other branch officers appreciated Mr. T. Bhagya Rao for his sincere efforts and watchfulness on duty.
