Scouts & Guides of Vijayawada Division distribute medicines to 640 beneficiaries in 4 Days

In a unique way to render services to its employees and pensioners, Railway hospital, Vijayawada has initiated supply of essential medicines to the staff and retired employees residing in & around Vijayawada at their doorsteps due to prevailing pandemic situation. This facility is particularly useful to elderly pensioners suffering from chronic health problems like diabetes, hypertension, cardiac-related diseases or any other chronic diseases etc. Right from its launch on 27th April, 2020, Railway Hospital Vijayawada has successfully delivered monthly OPD medicines to over 1850 employees & pensioners till date with assistance from Unions, Scouts & Welfare Inspectors of Personnel Department.

Initially the door delivery services were handled by Welfare inspectors, Union & Sangh members of Vijayawada Division. Later, Scout Appointees/ Employees and Student Rovers of Bharat Scouts & Guides, SCR, Vijayawada Division were also roped in for speedy disposal of monthly medicines and clear the backlogs in delivery. From 12th May, 2020 Scouts & student Rovers have effectively delivered medicines to 640 beneficiaries in 4 days braving the hot weather. All the beneficiaries especially aged people commended the Employees Unions, Scouts & Health Department for rendering yeoman services during lockdown. This novel initiative saves the commute for its employees & elderly pensioners to the Railway Hospital, respecting the strict rules of lockdown due to the prevailing pandemic.

By duly verifying the details, Medical Department with the assistance from Personnel Department will ensure delivery of monthly OPD medicines Diabetes, Hypertension, heart diseases etc for employees/pensioners residing in around the city

Shri V. V. Satyanarayana, Chief Medical Superintendent, Railway Hospital, and Vijayawada thanked the Union, Sangh members & Scouts team for their valuable support and assistance in delivery of medicines to door step. CMS said that the main emphasis to provide medical services to employees at remote locations and to practice social distancing if their condition doesn’t warrant more intensive health care. He also said the medicines which were not readily available at Hospital were purchased locally and delivered to patients without fail on later dates.

Shri P. Srinivas, Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada complimented the efforts and dedication of Medical wing of Division in providing valuable health care services to ensure staff’s health & safety amidst the prevailing pandemic. He lauded the efforts of Unions, Scouts & Guides team for voluntarily taking up the job for a noble cause during the lockdown. DRM appealed to Railway Employees & Elderly Pensioners to avail these services of Door Delivery and not to venture out from their homes unless warranted, by strictly respecting the lockdown restrictions imposed by the Government.
