'Swachh Awareness' conducted as part of Swacchta Pakhwara; Theme 'Ban on Single Use Plastic'

The Swachh Rail – Swachh Bharat campaign got off to a flying start on South Central Railway – Vijayawada Division with the commencement of the fortnight long, “Swachhata Hi Sewa – Swachhata Pakhwara” on 16th September, 2019 which will culminate on 2nd October, 2019, the Gandhi Jayanthi Day. 

Shri P. Srinivas, Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada administered Swachhata Pledge to Officers, staff and huge gathering of children from different schools.  After the Swachhata Pledge, a huge cleanliness awareness rally was conducted starting from Vijayawada Railway stadium to Vijayawada Railway station via R.E colony and old government Hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri P. Srinivas, DRM said that all must come forward to make India and Indian Railways clean and green. DRM advised the Officers and staff to pledge 100 hrs every week voluntarily to clean Station premises, offices and public spaces. He also instructed the staff to implement ban on Single use Plastic in letter and spirit. DRM appreciated the students for gathering in huge strength, teachers, scouts & guides, family members of railway men, house-keeping staff who put day and night effort to keep stations clean.  

‘Nukkad Nattak, played by students of SKCV School Children at Waiting Hall on Platform no.1 at Vijayawada Railway station with great enthusiasm was received with overwhelming response from the huge crowd. Smt. G. Sumana, Additional Divisional Manager, Operations appreciated the play enacted by the students and briefed the gathering about the ill-effects of plastic and the need of awareness. 

Dr. V. Satyanarana, Chief Medical Superintendent, Vijayawada conducted Multi-purpose Health check up camp organized on platform no.1 at Vijayawada Railway station for house-keeping staff and distributed medicines free of cost. Later, a massive Shramdaan was taken up by the Railway Officials on all Platforms at Vijayawada Railway Station with the theme “Plastic Free India”.  Similarly, Swachhata Pledge was administered along with Shramdaan by respective Station Managers and Supervisors at various stations all over Vijayawada Division.

Shri M.V.S. Ramaraju, ADRM (Infrastructure), Shri V. Satyanarana, CMS, Shri Ram Chandra Sahoo, Sr.DEnHM,  Shri P. Nehemiah, Sr.DPO, Shri Sachin Bhalode, Sr.DSC, Shri Gajendra Kumar, Sr.DEE/TRD, Shri Ramesh Gaikwad, DEnHM, Shri. K. Rajendra Prasad, DCM/In-charge PRO, Shri CH. Suresh, Station Director, V. Venkateswarulu Naik, ADMO, other officers and staff participated in the rally and Swachhata campaign at Vijayawada Railway Station.

The ensuing Swachhata Hi Sewa – Pakhwara will see a host of activities including Swachh Awareness, cleanliness dialog  with public, clean trains, clean stations, community day, clean workplace, clean residential premises, clean food, clean water, clean toilets etc.
