Passenger Services Committee inspects Vijayawada, Eluru & Tenali Railway Stations

Members of Passengers Services Committee constituted by Railway Board inspected Vijayawada, Eluru & Tenali Railway stations on 24th January, 2020. Shri Venkataramani (Telangana), Shri Surinder Bhagat( J&K), Smt. Reshma Hussain (Rajasthan), Shri Jai. L. Nagwani (Maharashtra), Shri M. N. Sundar (Tamil Nadu) and Shri G. S. Sethi (Jharkhand) took part in the station inspection progaramme and interacted with passengers. The main object of the inspection by this committee is to obtain passenger feedback on cleanliness, amenities, valuable suggestions for improvement and recommending steps concerning consumer’s insights on passenger services to Railway Board for implementation.

Members commenced the inspection at Vijayawada Railway Station and inspected the waiting hall on Platform no.1, Cloak room, Food Plaza, RO water vending stalls, CCTV surveillance systems, functioning of Plastic Bottle Crushing machines, Rail Dhaba, Toilets and General waiting Hall near the South side of platform no.1. Members frequently interacted with passengers and obtained their feedback on cleanliness, passenger amenities provided at the station. They inspected Rail Dhaba kitchen, quality of oil and water used for cooking food, hygiene, expiry date of the provisions used for preparation, safety precautions undertaken by the management. They also inspected the quality of the water at the RO water vending machines with TDS meter and found its quality well within the prescribed limits.

The committee interacted with media at the General waiting Hall on platform no.1 and briefed them about their inspection findings. They expressed their satisfaction with regard to the cleanliness and Passenger amenities and maintenance at the station and advised the officials to, provide more number of CC cameras for surveillance and increase the number of dustbins on platforms and lavatories for waste disposal.

Later, Members proceeded to Eluru by road and conducted extensive station inspection by interacting with the passengers for their feedback. They inspected the food stalls and expiry dates of dairy products, waiting halls and Divyang Toilets.

In the afternoon, they took part in the review meeting at Divisional Railway Manager Office, Vijayawada along with Branch officers. Shri P. Srinivas, Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada briefed the members about the recent achievements, passenger amenities, performance, current projects and the passenger friendly measures adopted by the Division to ensure comfortable and convenient travel to rail users through power point presentation. DRM said that Vijayawada Division daily handles 5 Lakh passengers, both inward & outward traffic with Vijayawada station alone having a footfall of 1 Lakh passengers with round the clock cleaning & maintenance activity. Committee members appreciated hard work and dedication of Division in dealing with such huge volume of passengers every day. They said that amenities at Vijayawada Railway station are relatively best in Indian Railways and with good response and satisfactory feedback from rail users.

In the evening, the committee proceeded to Tenali Railway Station and inspected the amenities, obtained passenger feedback and concluded the inspection.

Shri P. Bhaskar Reddy, Sr.DCM, Shri E. Santharam, Sr. DEN/Coordination, Shri K. Rajendra Prasad, DCM/N, Shri G Somasekhar Naidu, DCM/S, Shri Rama Rao, DEN/Central, K Kamalakar Babu, ACM, Nusrat M Mandrupkar/PRO and other officers & staff participated in the inspection.
