Temporary Increase in Platform Ticket Rate at Vijayawada, Rajahmundry & Nellore Railway Stations to Regulate Non-Travelling Public during Sankranti Festival Season

In view of the ensuing Sankranti festival season, it is anticipated that there will be huge crowd of rail travellers as well as accompanying non-travellers at Vijayawada, Rajahmundry & Nellore Railway Stations.

In order to regulate the flow of people to enter the platforms and avoid inconvenience to the travelling public by means of ensuring decongestion of platforms, the rate of Platform Ticket at Vijayawada, Rajahmundry & Nellore Railway Stations will be enhanced from present Rs. 10/- to Rs. 20/- for a period of 10 days i.e. from 11th to 19th January, 2020 (both days inclusive).

Vijayawada Division, South Central Railway is seeking rail passengers’ assistance for helping rail users to have comfortable and hassle-free journey during Sankranthi Festival. Railways ask passengers to avoid crowding platforms during the festive season by saying their goodbyes from and welcoming their relatives at the concourse/waiting areas. It would not only help reduce rush at Railway Stations, but will also ensure that families with children and elderly can travel with ease without having to worry about the rush. 

To always make rail journeys comfortable, Railways takes many steps like running special train services to cater to all class of rail passengers. There are Jansadharan (only second seating accommodation),

AC Special, Suvidha (Special Fare) and Special Trains are being run in all directions from Vijayawada. A total of 207 Specials trains passing through Vijayawada station and 61 Special trains originating from division apart from Sabarimala Specials are being run to clear the extra rush of passengers this festive season.

Another initiative is the ‘UTS on Mobile’ App that is made available for rail passengers to book unreserved tickets on their smart phones to avoid long queues at Booking Offices during peak hours.
