Now easy access to Rail Users to shop for ‘Pochampalli Handlooms’ - An Exclusive Outlet setup at Vijayawada Railway Station.
Vijayawada Division of South Central Railway has adopted an innovative idea by letting the space in Vijayawada Station to establish a stall for the world renowned ‘Pochampalli Handlooms’ to serve the esteemed rail passengers who are interested in exploring the shopping options having a flavour of the Local Culture. This stall is available on Platform No.1 of Vijayawada Railway Station.
‘Handloom House’ Store is set up at Vijayawada Railway Station and is presently stocking various products made of Pochampally Ikat, Venkatgiri and Mangalgiri Handlooms.
These fabrics are hand-woven and eco-friendly and a wide range of products are extensively produced. Iconic and unique design Pochampally sarees, dress materials, bed sheets, handkerchiefs (Teli rumals), bags, shirts, kurtas, lungis, towels and other handloom products are sold in the stall. This stall is set up in an area of 155 sq. ft and is major attraction for the rail users interested in Handloom products. Passengers alighting at Vijayawada have shown tremendous response to the stall because the famous handloom sarees are readily made available to meet their shopping needs without wasting much of their time, energy and money. This stall is receiving enormous response from rail passengers, especially from women.
Vijayawada Railway Station is an important junction on South Central Railway, serving nearly 55,000 passengers by operating around 192 trains on an average. The stall setup at Vijayawada has been handy since the idle time of rail users can be utilized in the best way. This stall has added beauty to the station by reflecting rich heritage & local culture.
Shri P. Srinivas, Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada Division appreciated the efforts of the Commercial Division, for adopting innovative ideas which will serve the passengers in a better way apart from generation of ‘Non-Fare Revenue’. Smt. G. Sumana, Additional Divisional Railway Manager (Operations) declared open the Handloom House today, i.e. 17th February 2020. She stated that Rail users can utilize this opportunity and save their shopping time and advised railway officials to adopt such innovative schemes for increasing the revenue from non-conventional sources by utilizing the available space in railway premises in the best way.
Shri P. Bhaskar Reddy, Sr. Divisional Commercial Manager; Shri K. Rajendra Prasad, Divisional Commercial Manager, Ms. Nusrat M Mandrupkar, Public Relations Officer, Shri Ch. Suresh, Vijayawada Station Director were present on the occasion.
