Vijayawada Division replaces Old Bridge in record time
Engineering team replaces old masonry bridge with pre-cast RCC Boxes on Down-line between Ongole - Karavadi section in record time of 8 hrs
Vijayawada Division has completed the replacement of old dilapidated masonry bridge with pre cast RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) boxes at Km no. 588 on Down main line in record 8 hrs successfully on 7th May, 2020. A Mega Block of 8 hrs was given between 07:30 – 15:30 hrs on down line yesterday to facilitate the replacement of old bridge after duly obtaining the sanctions from Zonal Safety Department. With this the long pending 5 major bridge blocks confronting the Division were completed in record time during the lockdown.
The work was completed by mobilizing three 200 MT capacity cranes, 4 Proclainers, 2 Power breakers, 4 Tipper Lorries, Tower car equipment & by engaging bare minimum labour of 20 people in record time of 8 hrs without affecting major train operations under the supervision of Shri. Sanjeev Kumar, Divisional Engineer, South, Vijayawada Division, South Central Railway. The workers were engaged by obtaining consent from state administration and they were thoroughly screened, provided with PPEs, sanitizers and all the safety precautions were undertaken by strictly adhering to physical distancing measures during the work. Utilizing the lockdown period imposed by Central Govt. to contain Covid-19 outspread, the Division has carried out major tracks & bridge repairs in record time, which would have otherwise affected the movement of more than 200 passenger & goods trains services during normal course.
Recently, four major bridge blocks were completed by the Division viz; two bridges each on up and down line mainline between Sigarayakonda –Tangutur and Rajahmundry-Visakhapatnam section where the track was washed out two times during floods in addition to the replacement of Scissors crossover at Vijayawada yard with PCC sleepers.
Shri P. Srinivas, Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada congratulated the Engineering team for carrying out such crucial works during lockdown period. He expressed his happiness & satisfaction over the Divisional Teams remarkable performance by positively marching ahead and setting new precedents even during these troubled times of pandemic. He lauded the efforts & dedication of field staff in commissioning the major infrastructure works in record time without affecting the train operations.
