Vijayawada Division, SCR achieves Record-Breaking Ticket Checking Earnings in FY 2024-25

The Vijayawada Division of South Central Railway (SCR) has achieved a historic milestone in ticket checking earnings for the financial year 2024-25, setting a new benchmark with revenue of ₹62.03 crore. This marks the highest-ever earnings recorded in a single financial year in the division’s history, surpassing the previous record of ₹60.1 crore registered in FY 2023-24. The division registered a 2.5% increase in total ticket-checking earnings compared to the previous year.

This remarkable achievement is credited to the persistent efforts of the Vijayawada Division Commercial Department’s Ticket Checking Wing, which conducted multiple fortress checks, ambush operations, and magisterial inspections to curb ticketless travel and irregular ticket usage.

During the year, 9,76,584 cases were detected, reflecting a 6.5% increase from the previous year. The earnings of ₹62.05 crore comprise:

·         4,52,887 cases of traveling without tickets, generating ₹37.17 crore

·         5,13,285 cases of irregular travel, contributing ₹24.69 crore

·         10,412 cases of unbooked luggage, earning ₹19.46 lakh

The surge in ticket checking initiatives was particularly crucial during the Kumbh Mela, when SCR operated numerous special trains to meet the increased passenger demand. The Commercial Branch undertook intensified ticket-checking drives to prevent ticketless travel and ensure a seamless journey for bonafide passengers.

Shri Rambabu Vavilapalli, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr. DCM), Vijayawada Division, applauded the unwavering dedication of the Ticket Checking Staff for their exemplary performance. He emphasized the importance of passenger service, urging staff members to remain courteous, efficient, and vigilant while on duty. Additionally, he encouraged passengers to utilize the QR codes displayed on Hand-Held Terminals (HHTs) carried by Ticket Examiners (TTEs) for payments related to ticket extensions, class upgrades, and penalties.

Shri Narendra A. Patil, Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada Division, extended his congratulations to Shri Vavilapalli Rambabu, Sr.DCM and his team for their commendable efforts in revenue enhancement. He reaffirmed the division’s commitment to curbing unauthorized travel and ensuring a hassle-free experience for genuine passengers through continuous intensive ticket-checking operations.
