Vijayawada Division undertakes Special Summer Relief Measures to tackle Passenger Rush
Gauging the increased travel demand during the summer season, South Central Railway’s Vijayawada Division has implemented special measures, ensuring smooth and comfortable travel for passengers.
Recognizing the surge in passenger movement, Vijayawada Division has deployed 64 Originating Summer Special Trains and 276 Enroute Summer special trains during the April- 2025. In the month of May 2025, around 44 Originating Specials, and 222 Enroute Summer Special trains shall be deployed to cater to the summer rush. Moreover, to cater to the growing rush, several express trains have been augmented with 230 extra coaches, effectively increasing seating capacity and reducing congestion in popular services.
In addition to these operational enhancements, Vijayawada Division has taken proactive steps to alleviate heat-related discomfort for passengers. Special summer relief measures, in collaboration with NGOs, Bharat Scouts and Guides, and SCRWWO. The following are the special measures:-
- Installation of special water kiosks and clay pots at railway stations for fresh drinking water availability.
- Buttermilk milk distribution drives carried out at major stations, providing much-needed hydration to travellers, by roping in Local NGO’s
- Ensuring Stocking of Extra Water bottles and Refreshments at all the catering stalls to meet the passenger demand.
- Coach watering of all the long Distance trains at important junstions
- Crowd management strategies have also been enhanced at foot-over bridges and concourses to streamline passenger movement
- RPF teams are engaged at Train Originating Stations and enroute stations to guide General Passengers into the coaches safely
- Water storage tanks at stations are being checked regularly, with replenishment schedules streamlined to prevent shortages
- Staff are deployed to refill train tanks at designated stations, guaranteeing sufficient water for onboard use.
With these comprehensive measures, Vijayawada Division remains committed to prioritizing passenger welfare during peak travel seasons, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and hassle-free journey for all travellers.
