Shri Mohit Sonakiya, IRSEE assumes charge as Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada Division

Shri Mohit Sonakiya, IRSEE, assumed charge as the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Vijayawada Division, South Central Railway, on 28th July 2025.

A 1995 graduate in B. Tech (Electrical Engineering) from the prestigious IIT Kanpur, Shri Sonakiya also holds a Master’s Degree (M. Tech) in Electrical Engineering from the same institute, earned in 1997. He joined the Indian Railways in February 1998 as Assistant Electrical Engineer (Rolling Stock), Ghaziabad, Northern Railway, and has had an illustrious career spanning over 27 years.

Prior to this new assignment, Shri Sonakiya was serving as the Principal Chief Electrical Engineer (PCEE), Rail Wheel Factory. He has also held several key and diverse positions across Indian Railways and allied organisations, including General Manager (Rolling Stock), Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC); Director, Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO); Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS); and Senior Professor at the Indian Railways Institute of Electrical Engineering.

Shri Sonakiya has made significant contributions to landmark projects such as the commissioning of the Kanpur Metro Priority Corridor in UPMRC and the electrification of the Chhapra–Gorakhpur section in Varanasi Division, North Eastern Railway.

As part of his professional development, he has undergone international training at INSEAD and the International Centre for Leadership in Finance (ICLIF) in Singapore/Malaysia. He has also been on official foreign visits, including to the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB), UK, and the Glasgow Strathclyde Partnership for Transport, Scotland, to study global best practices in rail safety and operations.

Apart from his professional excellence, Shri Mohit Sonakiya is an avid reader and has a keen interest in literature and current affairs.

Shri Narendra A. Patil, IRTS, who was serving as the Divisional Railway Manager of Vijayawada Division, relinquished charge today and is awaiting posting orders.
