Shri Mohit Sonakiya, DRM Vijayawada Division, SCR conducts Inspection of Rajahmundry-Godavari-Kovvur Section
In view of the upcoming Godavari Pushkaram in 2027, Shri Mohit Sonakiya, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Vijayawada Division, South Central Railway, conducted a detailed inspection of the Rajahmundry – Godavari – Kovvur Section on August 2, 2025.
The inspection commenced at Rajahmundry Railway
Station, with a special focus on crowd management strategies and infrastructure
readiness. Anticipating a massive footfall of over 40 lakh passengers during
the festival, the DRM and senior branch officers meticulously assessed the east
and west entrances, station yards, and Foot Over Bridges (FOBs).
As part of the major upgradation of the Station and
the Godavari Pushkaram, the team scouted for safe and accessible holding areas,
particularly at the east and west circulating areas of Rajahmundry station, and
suggested enhancements to crowd flow pathways, shelter provisions, and public
facilities.
“Safety is paramount. We are proactively identifying
and developing dedicated holding areas to ensure that the station can handle
high volumes of passengers without compromising on comfort or safety,” said
Shri Mohit Sonakiya, DRM, Vijayawada Division.
The inspection also reviewed existing passenger
amenities and outlined plans to upgrade infrastructure, including installation
of additional lifts and escalators, expansion of ticket booking counters, improved
charging points and seating areas, upgraded parking facilities and public
conveniences and enhanced circulating area with covered shelters for pilgrims
and families.
“We are committed to providing a convenient and
seamless travel experience during this spiritually significant event. Our aim
is to ensure that every devotee feels safe, respected, and well-served from the
moment they enter the station premises,” Shri Sonakiya, DRM added.
The team also inspected the FOBs and yard layouts
across the Rajahmundry–Godavari–Kovvur stretch to assess operational readiness
and identify any engineering works that require expediting. The DRM emphasised
that all upgrades and works will be taken up on a mission mode, with
coordination across departments to meet the deadline.
“Godavari Pushkaram is not just a logistical exercise;
it is a matter of pride and service. The railway network will be the lifeline
of this event, and we are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a robust and
resilient system,” he remarked.
The Division reiterated its commitment to continuous
monitoring and timely execution of works to meet the unique demands of
Pushkaram 2027. Further rounds of inspection and inter-departmental
coordination meetings are scheduled in the coming months as required.
