IGBC 'Gold Rating' for Vijayawada Railway Station
Vijayawada Railway Station was awarded Gold Rating by Indian Green Building Council. Shri R. Dhananjayulu, Divisional Railway Manager received Indian Green Building Council’ Gold Rating Shield for Vijayawada Railway Station from Shri Vijaya Sai Meka, Chairman, IGBC (Amaravati Chapter) in Divisional Conference hall, Vijayawada on 25th March, 2019.
The IGBC-CII, with the support of Environment Directorate of Indian Railways has developed the Green Railway Stations Rating system to facilitate adoption of Green Concepts, thereby reducing the adverse environmental impacts due to station operation & maintenance and enhance the overall commuter experience. The rating system helps to address National priorities like water conservation, handling of waste, energy efficiency, reduced used of fossil fuel, lesser dependency on usage of virgin materials and health & well being of occupants.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri R. Dhananjayulu, DRM, Vijayawada congratulated the staff instrumental in achieving this exceptional feat. DRM said that the field staff and branch officers should work hard and try for achieving Platinum rating for Vijayawada Railway station next year. He also said that Vijayawada Railway station was awarded 4th rank in Indian Railways for maintaining cleanliness among A1 Category stations of Indian Railways by the survey team of QCI consecutively for the year 2017 & 2018.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Vijaya Sai Meka, Chairman, IGBC (Amaravati Chapter) said that Gold Rating for Vijayawada Railway Station is a big break and the effort must be continued with progress to achieve Platinum rating. He also said that the extra hard work done by the railways is clearly witnessed with installation of 100% LED lights, Fans (BEE 5 Star Rated), Pumps and Motors, Solar Water Heating Systems). He also advised to increase green cover from 22% to 50% at Railway Station. He said that the working atmosphere will be very fresh with more daylight and more ventilation.
Later, Shri R Dhananjayulu distributed awards to railway staff in recognition for their meritorious service in achieving Gold rating for Vijayawada Railway Station. Shri V.
