DRM's Press Conference regarding Annual Performance of Vijayawada Division

Shri R. Dhananjayulu, Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada Division addressed print and electronic Media in conference hall, Divisional Office, Vijayawada on 5th April, 2019.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri R. Dhananjayulu, DRM briefed on divisional performance of Vijayawada Division during the year 2018-19. Some of the key points mentioned during the press conference are appended below.

Earnings

  • Vijayawada Division grossed about Rs.5,137 Crore earnings in the financial year 2018-19 which is about 38% more than the corresponding figure of Rs.3,720 Crore in the year 2017-18 
  • The division has surpassed the target earnings of Rs. 4,334 Crore by 18.5% in 2018-19
  • Total no. of originating passengers in the year 2018-19 are 91.5 Million
  • The division has recorded passenger earnings of Rs. 1,042.23 Crore which is 9.35% more than corresponding figure of Rs. 953.08 Crore
  • During the financial year 2018-19, Vijayawada Division grossed originating freight earnings of Rs. 3965.29 Crore which is about 50% more than the previous year, with 33.76 Million Tonne freight loading
  • Vijayawada Division achieved highest incremental loading of 9.3 MT among all divisions in the entire Indian Railways during 2018-19 compared to previous financial year
  • Krishnapatnam and Kakinada Ports played a significant role in achieving these record earnings

Gold Rating for Vijayawada Railway Station

  • Vijayawada Railway Station bagged Gold rating certification by Indian Green Building Council in March 2019
  • Vijayawada Railway Station has also been awarded 4th rank consecutively for two years i.e., for 2017 & 2018 by Quality Council of India in Indian Railways among 75 A1 category stations
  • Vijayawada railway station is identified as one among the 36 Stations to be developed as Eco-Smart stations on Indian Railways, as per the guidelines of National Green tribunal (NGT) by achieving environment standards of ‘ISO-14001’ laid down by BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) in the form of environment management system
  • Free Wi-Fi facility has been provided at 56 railway stations on Vijayawada Division
  • 100% LED lighting provided at stations, service buildings, yards and LC gates
  • Station lighting levels are upgraded at Vijayawada, Rajahmundry and Nellore Railway stations
  • A total of 31 Passenger Lifts and 17 Escalators have been provided on the Division
  • All unmanned Level crossings have been eliminated on the Division

Infrastructure Projects

  • Automatic Block Signal working between Vijayawada North East Cabin – Mustabad (12.9 km) commissioned
  • Coaching fitness for bulb lines between Bulb Cabin and Vijayawada North Cabin enabling bypassing of Vijayawada Junction
  • All the special trains running between Hyderabad/ Secunderabad and Kakinada Port/ Visakhapatnam/ Howrah/ Guwahati have been bypassed with stoppage at Rayanapadu Railway Station with effect from 26th Dec, 2018
  • In addition to this the following Regular Trains are diverted to run via by pass line with stoppage at Rayanapadu

  • Two new Crossovers have been provided at VNEC Cabin to facilitate more flexibility in reception and dispatch of trains from Road 1 to 4 from VSKP lines. This has helped in decongesting platforms in Vijayawada yard
  • Three IBS (Intermediate Block Signalling) were commissioned at Tuni-Hamsavaram, Annavaram-Ravikampadu and Chebrol-Pulla to enhance section capacity in Vijayawada-Rajahmundry-Duvvada section
  • Gudur Yard Re-modelling: Increasing no. of platforms from 3 to 5
Security
  • Vijayawada Division is the first in Indian Railways with access to Interoperable Criminal Justice System (ICJS) and Crime and Criminal Tracking Networking Systems (CCTNS)
  • Six fingerprint based criminal identification devices have been procured. RPF now has access to the database of 12 Lakh criminals and is the first of its kind by the RPF in Indian railways.
  • During the year 2018-19, a total of 168 cases of “Theft of Passenger Belongings” were detected by RPF with the recovery of stolen property of value of Rs.6,64,66,162/- with the arrest of 109 offenders
  • During the year 2018-19, 51 Smugglers were apprehended while they were transporting smuggled items (Gold, Star Tortoise and Ganja) of value Rs. 1.6 Crore in 24 instances and handed over to GRP, DRI & Excise Department
  • During the year 2018-19, RPF personnel rescued 242 runaway children and handed over them to their Parents/NGOs. RPF Web Portal was launched to facilitate reunion of rescued children
  • During the year 2018-19, RPF personnel retrieved 429 left over articles worth of Rs. 95.16 Lakh and handed over to the passengers

Anti-Littering Drives

  • South Central Railway – Vijayawada Division appeals to its esteemed travelling public to not to indulge in littering and throwing of waste in the Trains & Station premises and cooperate in maintaining cleanliness of the Railway stations. Anti-littering drives are regularly organized. Anti-littering boards and posters are exhibited at various locations at all Railway stations. 
  • In the year 2018-19, 1,362 cases were registered and an amount of Rs. 2,72,700/- was realized towards penalty.
Alarm Chain Pulling
  • South Central Railway – Vijayawada Division also appeals to its esteemed travelling public to not to indulge in Alarm Chain pulling without any valid reason, which affects train’s punctuality and causing inconvenience to co-passengers.
  • A total no. of 1,097 ACP (Alarm Chain pulling) cases were reported during the year 2018-19, in which 362 ACP cases were registered and an amount of Rs. 3,24,300 was realized towards penalty.

DRM lauded the efforts of divisional officers and staff with best complements for the top performance achieved during 2018-19 and advised to carry forward the momentum with the same vigor and zeal.
