73rd Independence Day Celebrations on Vijayawada Division

Vijayawada Division celebrated 73rd Independence Day in DRM’s office compound at Vijayawada  on 15th August, 2019. Shri P. Srinivas, Divisional Railway Manager and Chief Guest unfurled the Indian National Flag. He received the Guard of Honour from RPF Contingents and addressed the gathering by reading  South Central Railway – General Manager’s message.

Excerpt from SCR General Manager’s Message
  • South Central Railway has recorded a tremendous all round performance for the financial year 2018-19 by receiving Performance Efficiency Shields in the fields of Traffic Transportation, Personnel Management, Civil Engineering and Stores which is the highest for any Zone on Indian Railways. 
  • South Central Railway also achieved the rare distinction of “First on Indian Railways to eliminate all unmanned level crossings”. 
  • The Major thrust area of SCR is augmentation of Infrastructure, the zone has commissioned a vital 93 KM new electrified rail line project linking Obulavaripali and Venkatachalam which includes the longest electrified tunnel over Indian Railways to the length of 6.6 KM.
  • Other important infrastructure works completed include doubling of Moturu - Akividu Section, Doubling and electrification of Guntur – Tenali Section, Guntakal – Gulapalyamu Section and electrification of Tenali-Ramchandrapuram Section in Andhra Pradesh.
  • The zone has operated 774 special trains, 4,483 additional coaches attached to regular services during the current financial year benefiting 12 Lakh passengers.
  • SCR has taken successful strides towards energy conversation by installing 100% LED lighting all over the system which led to annual saving of Rs.7 Crore and by setting up 8 Mega Watt of solar plant for captive use.
  • SCR has taken the initiative of Green Environment and Environmental Protection by planting of 2.73 Lakh saplings all over the zone, installation of 673 Rain Water Harvesting Systems, Rejuvenating 56 old water bodies and construction of 80 new ponds which led to saving of Rs.26 Crore annually besides sizable contribution towards better environment.
  • SCR has become the first zone on Indian Railways by implementing the paperless e-office concept which affords movements of files on Digital Gateway.
  • The zone has pioneered in producing UMID (Unique Medical Identification) Smart Card for employees (including retired employees) which enables them to access medical facilities with ease. Around 75,000 employees constituting 97% of SCR Manpower have registered for the UMID card in a short period of 4 months.
  • The SCR sports association has achieved 4th position on Indian Railways, the best ever by tapping the best sporting talent representing SCR at both International and National levels and enhancing the standards in various sports disciplines.
Shri P. Srinivas, DRM felicitated Kum. P. Sonica, Jr. Clerk, Engineering department, Vijayawada for her achievements in the field of Badminton. Later, Children from Asha Kiran, SKPV High School and Kendriya Vidyalaya performed various cultural programmes. Shri P. Srinivas, DRM and Smt. Surekha Srinivas, President, SCRWWO, Vijayawada distributed prizes to RPF Staff and School children. Shri K. Rajendra Prasad, DCM & Incharge-PRO and Mr. Karimullah, Sr.Tech/ELS/BZA won awards for securing first place in the Independence Day Tennis Tournament.
