Sewa Diwas Observed, Pledge administered to 'Ban Single Use Plastic' on the eve of Gandhi Jayanthi

Vijayawada Division conducted 'Swachhata Hi Sewa' campaign all over the division as a part of Swachh Rail - Swachh Bharat - Swachhata Pakhwara from 16th September to 2nd October, 2019. Commemorating the Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji, Swachh awareness programmes were conducted at Vijayawada Railway Station as a part of "Sewa Diwas" (Community Service Day) on the eve of Gandhi Jayanthi on 2nd October, 2019.

Shri P. Srinivas, Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada administered 'Swachhata Hi Sewa' pledge to a huge gathering of officers, staff, school children, stake holders and general public in front of Vijayawada Railway station (Near clock tower).

Later, Shri P. Srinivas flagged of Train no.17481 Bilaspur-Tirupati Express decorated with Swachhata themes on the eve of Gandhi Jayanthi at Vijayawada Railway station.

Addressing the gathering the Divisional Railway Manager said that people must come forward to take the responsibility of keeping the Nation and Indian Railways clean and advised all to say no to "single use plastic" which has become a threat to the environment.

As a part of Swachhata awareness programme, Nukkad Nattaks were performed by SKCV school children in front of huge crowd on platform no.1 at Vijayawada Railway Station on the eve of "Gandhi Jayanthi". A model of Bio-Toilet was kept on Display at Waiting hall on Platform No.1 and a demonstration was given by Officers on its working and its advantages compared to normal toilets. Officers also appealed to the travelling public to refrain from throwing garbage into the Bio-toilets which causes obstruction to the fermentation process in the Bio-toilet chambers. Later a massive Shramdaan campaign was conducted by Railway Officials in collaboration with Sant Nirankari Charitable Foundation on all the platforms of Vijayawada Railway Station.  

Interacting with Print and Electronic Media, Shri P. Srinivas, DRM said that every citizen must take oath to protect the environment from Plastic and build a clean and green path for our future generations. He also applauded all the staff, stake holders and school children for taking part in the fortnight cleanliness awareness programmes. DRM also appreciated the efforts of Media for wide coverage of Swachhata Pakhwara programmes held during the fortnight.

Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, South Central Railway, during his visit to Vijayawada Division interacted with college & school children and distributed cloth bags and planted saplings as a part of "Swachhata Hi Sewa" & "Say no to Single use Plastic" awareness campaign held at Rajahmundry Railway station.

As a part of fortnight long cleanliness campaign "Swachhata Pakhwara", various cleanliness activities like "Swachh Station", "Swachh Aahaar", "Swachh Neer", "Swachh Parisar", "Swachh Prasadan", "Swachh Dialogue",  has been conducted at all Railway stations over the division involving all officers, staff, stake holders, school & college students and rail users with great zeal. Plastic bottle crushing machines were installed at all major Railway stations over the division.

During the fortnight cleanliness campaign, Officers administered swachhata pledge to staff and rail users, planted saplings, conducted cleanliness drives, interacted with passengers to create awareness on cleanliness and conducted rallies at railway stations, circulating areas and railway colonies all over the division.
