Electronic Traction Training Centre, Vijayawada bags prestigious National Energy Conservation Award


Electric Traction Training Centre (ETTC)/Vijayawada bagged prestigious “Certificate of Merit” award for saving one lakh units per annum in Energy Conservation under category of Universities/Institutes  at National Energy Conservation Awards function held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi by Bureau of Energy Efficiency/Ministry of Power on 14 December, 2019.

Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Commerce and Industry, Government of India complimented the team SCR for their exemplary performance in Energy Conservation sector. He advised the South Central Railway to further the cause of reducing the energy consumption to promote development of Nation. Shri P Srinivas, Divisional railway Manager, Vijayawada stated that ETTC winning prestigious Energy conservation merit award at National level is an achievement by the dedicated workforce of the  Division. Shri P Srinivas, DRM, congratulated Shri. V. Venkata Ramana, Sr. Divisional Electrical Engineer, Vijayawada and team on receiving the award for energy conservation.

Energy conservation measures implemented in Electric Traction Training Centre/BZA

  • Use of Solar Energy
  • Use of LED fittings in place of higher wattage fittings
  • Use of energy efficient pumps
  • Provision of Occupancy sensors
  • Use of star labeled electrical equipments
  • BLDC fans & Inverter AC units
  • Timers for water coolers / rolling examination lights
  • Adjustment of correct temparature settings of AC units & water coolers
  • Provision of 10 KWp roof mounted Solar Power Plant, saving 10,500 units per annum
  • Provision of 5KWp solar tree, saving 5,250 units per annum
ETTC, Vijayawada imparts various trainings viz., initial, refresher, promotional, conversional, simulator training on train dynamics and special courses to Running, TRS, EMU & TRD staff of SC Railway and occasionally to staff of other Railways on their request. Institute is having 23 Instructors for imparting training. Training on 3 phase locomotives was commenced from January 2007. All classrooms are equipped with modern teaching aids viz., LCDs, PCs, Modern furniture. Air conditioned computer lab with 20 numbers of PCs available. Implemented E-learning by developing Power and Control circuits. An auditorium with 200 seating capacity available to conduct seminars, meetings and exams under CC cameras coverage.


South Central Railway bagged a total of 4 National Energy Conservation awards (including the Award for ETTC, Vijayawada), which is highest amongst all the competing Organizations. Shri R. K. Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State for Power, Government of India presented the prestigious first prize to Lekha Bhavan in CPWD, PHED & State PWD sector to Shri A. A. Phadke, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer and Shri N. S. R. Prasad, Divisional Railway Manager, Hyderabad Division.

  2. Kacheguda Station (CPWD, PHED & State PWD sector)
