Vijayawada station bags prestigious Environmental Standard ISO 14001:2015 on 2nd December, 2019 with validity till 01st December, 2022 for implementing Environmental Management System at best and unique standards. ISO 14001 Environmental Management System is a way of managing the aspects at Vijayawada Railway station which have a significant impact on the environment. The result is a culmination of hard work, dedication and commitment of every employee to comply with all applicable legal requirements and other requirements in dealing with all the activities related to station operations and rail traffic services.
Two stage audits have been conducted at BZA station in the month of Nov’19. It is surprisingly happy to declare that there were NO Non-Conformities at all in either audits which signifies that the procedures being followed at the Railway station in meeting all the legal requirements are well adequate with mere follow up of the prestigious/ challenging officers in delivering their best efforts to their teams.
By obtaining ISO 14001 Certification the Vijayawada Railway station has proved that we are aware of all environmental obligations and are looking to reduce the environmental impact. Having an ISO 14001 Certification gives immediate reassurance to potential customers that we have taken steps to minimize the organization’s impact on the environment. This is critical as the flow of passengers becoming increasingly savvy about green issues with potential clients.
The audit teams have suggested few more improvements. For continuing the certification for three years, it has to undergo further for two surveillance audits in 2020 & 2021. We assure and commit that the policy meeting the legal requirements will be maintained continuously with courage by each and every employee at the station.
Recently, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) directed Indian Railways to identify 36 stations to be developed as Eco-Smart stations by achieving green environment standards. Accordingly, the South Central Railway (SCR) identified three stations from its zone — Secunderabad, Kacheguda and Vijayawada. The NGT has laid down norms for achieving environment standard certification from BIS for selected railway stations within a specific period of time. These stations have to achieve compliance of 10 major parameters with respect to ‘ISO-14001’ certification.
The ten Parameters to be achieved include cleanliness at stations, disposal of solid waste, providing pet bottle crusher machines, taking up anti-littering activities, water management, preventing defecation along railway tracks, removal of encroachments, energy management, afforestation and plantation.
Vijayawada Railway Station has been certified as “Green Railway Station” with “Gold Rating” from CII-IGBC recently i.e., in the current month, March 2019. It stood in 4th rank consecutively for 3 years in Swachhatha survey conducted by QCI from 2017.
