South Central Railway- Vijayawada division is conducting International Women’s Day Campaign from 01st March to 10th March, 2020 with the theme of “Each for Equal” to signify that collectively each one of us can help create a gender equal world. The main objective of this campaign is to highlight the importance of women empowerment to make them independent on all aspects and to bring gender equality in the social order of the society.
Indian Railways is one of the largest employers in the world and a major frontrunner to the cause of women empowerment since its inception. Indian Railways is home to more than one lakh women employees and the number is only increasing every day. Indian Railways has taken several special measures for the safety & security of women passengers along with exclusive facilities for them in trains. Vijayawada Division is having more than 1800 women employees working in various capacities effectively day in and day out. Every Depot in Vijayawada Division is having an All Women Unit exclusively working without any physical and social barriers on par with men, which enhances their role and contribution towards maximizing productivity and development of the Division. Ramavarappadu is the first All Women’s station in the Vijayawada Division fully operated by women employees efficiently round the clock. Teja & Krishna TTE (Train Ticket Examiner) Squads exclusively comprising women employees are performing their duties with utmost dedication by apprehending ticketless travelers & habitual offenders. Apart from All women Units, Vijayawada Division consists of many women employees working as RPF, Loco pilots, TTEs, Technicians, Clerks, Guards, Engineers, Points women, Station Managers and helpers etc.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri P. Srinivas, Divisional Railway Manager stated that Women Employees are the real pride of Vijayawada Division and they are excelling on all the fronts with sincerity and dedication. “Such campaigns are necessary to bring social change and root out gender bias from the society”, he added. He also said that Indian Railways has always taken special measures for women staff and passengers to ensure secure & safe train journeys and right kind of environment at workplace.
