MEMU Car Shed, Rajahmundry bags 5 ‘S’ Workplace Management Certification
MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) Car shed Rajahmundry of Vijayawada Division, has been awarded with 5 ‘S’ Workplace Management Systems Certification with a validity period of 3 years on 27th January, 2022. This certification would further raise the maintenance standards of MEMU coaches’ maintenance at MEMU Car Shed, Rajahmundry enabling a safe, reliable, smooth, punctual and comfortable MEMU train journey to all its passengers.
MEMU Car Shed, Rajahmundry has been looking after the
maintenance of over 190 MEMU coaches providing services over South Central
Railway from Visakhapatnam to Tirupati and Sirpur Kagaznagar to Vijayawada.
MEMU Car Shed, Rajahmundry has been continually striving to improve upon the
existing workplace practices since its inception. For ensuring safe, punctual
and reliable train services, optimum upkeep of MEMU coaches, Vijayawada
Division of South Central Railway had proposed for implementing 5S Workplace
management system in MEMU Car Shed Rajahmundry under the able guidance of Shri
Shivendra Mohan, Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada Division and Shri M.
Srikanth, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Operations.
On similar lines, the work was awarded in the month of
December 2021 to a consultancy firm which had conducted initial audit and a
plan for improvement of workplace management practice was chalked out. Further
seminars and training sessions were conducted. The quantum of work was assigned
to various zonal in charges and necessary workplace improvement actions were
undertaken effectively. Upon bridging the gaps in workplace management
practices, MEMU Car shed Rajahmundry was finally awarded with 5S certification.
Shri Shivendra Mohan, DRM, Vijayawada congratulated
Shri B. Venkatesh, Asst. Divisional Electrical Engineer, MEMU Car Shed,
Vijayawada and staff for bagging the certification and implementing efficient
practices to increase the productivity.
‘5S’ is the name of a Workplace Management system that
uses a list of Japanese words: ‘Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu and Shitsuke’,
which are translated as ‘Sorting, Arranging, Cleaning, Standardisation and
Discipline’. The objective of ‘5S’ is to creating a neat and clean workplace,
systematize day to day working, improving work efficiency, standardize work
practices and to improve work discipline. Thus, by adopting ‘5S’ concept of
work management the increase in productivity and efficiency can be
achieved. 5S involves in training of staff, Documentation management,
Auditing & Certification of various 5S concepts at work place. These
activities are done only by proficient organizations who are authorized to
provide certification through proper auditing.
