Vijayawada Division celebrates International Women’s Day























South Central Railway, Vijayawada Division celebrated International Women’s Day under the theme “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow” today i.e., 08th March, 2022 at Divisional Railway Auditorium, Vijayawada. Smt. Jaya Mohan, President, South Central Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (SCRWWO), Vijayawada, graced the occasion as Chief Guest and Dr. Sri Lakshmi, Chief Medical Superintendent, Railway Hospital, Vijayawada was the Guest of Honour.  

At the outset, Shri M. Bala Muralidhar, Sr. DPO, Vijayawada welcomed the dignitaries on to the dias and delivered welcome address. Smt. Jaya Mohan, President, SCRWWO, Vijayawada and Dr. Sri Lakshmi, CMS, Vijayawada inaugurated the event by taking part in the lamp lighting ceremony and conveyed warm wishes to the proud women working force of Vijayawada Division. Smt. Jaya Mohan, President, SCRWWO, Vijayawada felicitated 17 women employees from each department for outstanding contribution and meritorious services followed by cultural programs.

Addressing the gathering, Smt. Jaya Mohan said that Women Employees are the real pride of Vijayawada Division and they are excelling on all the fronts with sincerity and dedication. She also said that Indian Railways is always a front runner to the cause of women empowerment in all spheres and every possible way. She said that Division has around 1750 women employees working in various capacities like Loco Pilots, TTEs, Technicians, Clerks, Guards, Engineers, Points women, Station Managers and helpers. She also said that ‘Ramavarappadu’ is the first All Women’s station in the Vijayawada Division fully operated by women employees efficiently round-the-clock, since 2018. She said that women are always an inspiration to the society and they are always ready to shoulder higher responsibility during any adversities. She appealed to everyone to strive for Gender equality and achieve level playing field for women at all the levels.  She congratulated the Personnel Department for organising the event in a grand manner.

Dr. Sri Lakshmi, CMS, Railway Hospital, Vijayawada, said that women play an undisputed leadership role in the family tradition and in the Nation building, She said that the main objective of celebrating this day, is to highlight the importance of women empowerment, to make them independent on all aspects and to bring gender equality in the social order of the society. She congratulated the women work force of the Division for their indomitable spirit, dedication and their contribution to the Division’s success story.

At, Electric Loco Shed, Vijayawada also Women’s Day was celebrated in a grand manner by honouring the women employees of the depot. Different cultural programs were organised by women employees, games were conducted and prizes were distributed.
