Vijayawada Railway Station of Vijayawada Division becomes the first Station over the Division for the implementation of “One Station One Product” concept. Being a first-time initiative, it is being implemented as a pilot project for duration of 15 days starting from 9th April 2022.
The novel initiative of “One station One Product” was announced in the union Budget 2022-23 to make each railway station a promotional and sales hub for local products, thereby giving a major boost to livelihood and welfare of local artisans, potters, weavers/ handloom weavers, Tribals, etc. The nominated stations have been planned to act as a marketing channel wherein a fully-functional stall is earmarked for promoting and selling the product. Vijayawada Railway station is the junction which connects the North to the South & East to the West of India and witnesses regular flow of rail passengers from across the Nation. It is also a major pilgrim hub with Kanak Durga Temple being situated here. As such, the station is well placed to promote Local products to have National reach.
To implement the pilot project, applications were called from Local persons/Artisans/traders/etc. who are interested in promoting Local indigenous products at the Vijayawada Station. A huge response was seen for the initiative wherein multiple applications were received for participation in the pilot project. Based on that, Vijayawada Division has allotted stall for promoting Kondapalli Bommalu & Handicrafts at the station. The main features include:
- Kondapalli Toys and Handicrafts are being promoted by the respective vendors.
- Stall is located in the prime Passenger interface area (Platform No.1 of the station) for enhanced visibility.
- Stalls will be allowed to function from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm during the entire period of the Pilot Project i.e., from 9th April 2022 to 23rd April 2022.
- Facility to promote and sell the indigenous local products at the Stall and on platforms.
At the launch of the Vijayawada Station: One Station-One Product, Shri Shivendra Mohan, Divisional Railway Manager complimented the Officers and staff of Commercial Department for implementing this novel initiative over the Division. He stated that this will help in enhancing the glory of Kondapalli toys that are famous for their lightweight, vibrant colours and age-old production techniques. As they are themed around mythology, rural life and animals, these toys with realistic expressions will not only spread joy to the buyer but also to the local artisan by giving a major fillip by providing them a platform for displaying their products to the passengers coming from across the Nation and will help expanding the market for their goods. He stated that Railway stations, with huge footfalls, are well placed to promote indigenous products surrounding the nominated stations.
