Longer Loop Line commissioned at Elamanchili Station
To ease freight operations and to accommodate Longer Haul Goods Trains
This is the fourth longer loop of Vijayawada Division
To enhance train operations, ease congestion and to accommodate long haul Goods Trains with additional wagons than the standard composition, Vijayawada Division, SCR has recently commissioned longer loop line at Elamanchili Railway Station. It is located on the busy Grand trunk route of Vijayawada – Visakhapatnam section. This is the fourth longer loop that has been constructed on the Vijayawada Division, the other three longer loop commissioned are at Bikkavolu, Nawabpalem, and Bitragunta Station.
In Railways, loop lines are constructed in station area to handle more trains and to ease train operations. Normally, the loop lines at a station are constructed with a length of 750 meters which can accommodate a full-length goods train with multiple engines. With the increasing need to transport huge quantities at one go, it has necessitated to handle longer trains having more wagons than the regular composition. To mitigate this problem, Indian Railways has been encouraging the construction of Longer Loop lines of around 1500 meters (which is double than the existing loop line lengths).
Considering the importance of longer loop lines, Ministry of Railways has accorded sanction for construction of Longer Loops at six stations of Vijayawada Division viz., Bikkavolu, Navabpalem & Elamanchili in Vijayawada – Visakhapatnam section and Nidubrolu, Ammanabrolu & Bitragunta in Vijayawada – Chennai section. Out of these, four longer loops have already been commissioned i.e., At Bikkavolu, Bitragunta, Navabpalem and Elamanchili stations. Works are in the fast progress at the remaining two locations.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri U. Akki Reddy, Sr. Divisional Engineer, North said that that Elamnachili longer loop work was taken up by the Division from 25th July to 02nd August, 2022 duly modifying the signal system, providing new OHE lines, new track lines for accommodating long haul trains of 1500m. He said that the three longer loops works at Navabpalem, Bikkavolu and Elamanchili in the busy Vijayawada- Visakhapatnam (North Section) were completed at a cost of Rs. 47 Crore by the Division. He thanked the Officials and staff of Operating, Signaling, Electrical, Traction Distribution for meticulous planning and coordinated efforts in commissioning the longer loop line without any delay.
The entire work of commissioning, Elamanchili longer loop was carried out without least disturbing train operations through meticulous planning. 10 new points and crossings were laid during the process; heavy track machines, T-28 Cranes with 300 men were deployed to carry out the work in swift manner.
Shri Shivendra Mohan, Divisional Railway Manger, Vijayawada Division complimented the officials of the Division on timely completion of this longer loop line with sincere and dedicated efforts. DRM said that this longer loop will help in improving the punctuality of passenger trains by avoiding main line regulation of Goods trains, reducing wagon detentions, and also handling more trains over the Division. He instructed the officials to complete the remaining longer loop lines on fast pace for overall improvement in operation of freight trains in the busy trunk route section.
