Vijayawada Division introduces Hand Held Terminals (HHT) working on 99% of Trains in the Division

417 Hand Held Terminals supplied to TTEs onboard 248 Express Trains out of 250 trains being manned by our Divisional Staff

South Central Railway, Vijayawada Division, earlier on a pilot basis introduced Hand Held Terminal (HHT) working in Daily Intercity trains of Vijayawada. With excellent outcomes, great success and outstanding feedback from Ticket Checking Staff, Vijayawada Division has now implemented HHT working in 99% of trains running through the Division and manned by our Ticket Checking Staff.

Commercial Department has supplied total of 417 HHT devices to Ticket checking Staff of the Vijayawada Division. Out of 250 daily/non-daily trains, HHTs working has been introduced in 248 originating, terminating and passing through trains being manned by Ticket Checking Staff of Division.

These Hand Held Terminals bring transparency in the allotment of berths to the passengers and also facilitate paperless and digital working. The TTEs need not carry manual charts for ticket checking and can carry out their duties with ease and comfort. Through HHT, the summary reports at the end of the journey are digitally auto-generated and TTEs need not make any manual entries. HHT reduce the stress on printing stationery of Railways also.

The Ticket Checking staff (TCs) can easily check the tickets of passengers and mark their occupancy of the allotted accommodation in HHT. Accordingly, the TTE, in case of any vacancies arising due to not turning up of any passenger, during the journey, can allot the vacant berths to the next in-line passenger on the train. Passengers will benefit from prompt allotment of vacant berths in the course of the journey. In case, if the train is vacant and no RAC or waitlist passengers are there, TTE can release the not joined berths to PRS, which would be immediately available online and offline at the next remote location for the current reservation. This would increase the availability of berths at the next remote location, thereby benefitting passengers immensely.
Shri Vavilapalli Rambabu, IRTS, Sr Divisional Commercial Manager, Vijayawada Division said that the Passengers once marked not turned up in HHT devices at the journey commencing station can’t be allotted the same berth, if he/she boards at the next station, further the same berth shall be forfeited and will be allotted to RAC/waitlist passengers. He has appealed to the travelling public to board only at the respective journey commencing stations or alter the boarding points well in advance, before the preparation of the chart. Since manual charting is dispensed with, allotment of vacant berths to RAC/WL or releasing them to the next remote location is automatic and TTE has no discretion.
