Railway Hospital, Vijayawada observes “World Anti-Tobacco Day”
Railway Hospital, Vijayawada on the occasion of "World Anti-Tobacco Day conducted Awareness Program for patients at New OPD block today morning i.e., 31st May,2023. The Awareness Programme was conducted in Association with American Oncology Institute, Vijayawada. Dr .M.Sowribala, Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS), Vijayawada graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Dr.T. Kranthi Kumar, Radiation Oncologist, American Oncology Institute is the Guest of Honour.
At the outset, Dr. M. Jaideep ACMS, Health & Family Welfare welcomed the audience & spoke about importance of the day & Prevalence of Tobacco related diseases in India to all the Railway Beneficiaries in attendance. Dr.T. Kranthi Kumar, Radiation Oncologist clearly explained about Tobacco products & diseases caused by them especially Cancers, their symptoms modalities of treatment & prevention measures in detail in local vernacular language. This year Theme" We need food, not Tobacco “was reached to Beneficiaries
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. M. Sowribala, Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) thanked Dr. T. Kranthi Kumar for gracing the event as Key note speaker. CMS appealed to Patients to shun the use of Tobacco products in all forms. CMS stated that more than 8 million deaths each year worldwide due to Tobacco, including 1.2 million as the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke. CMS highlighted that Smoking causes cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung diseases, diabetes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis. She underscored the importance of Exercise, Yoga & Meditation in daily life to beat the stress. Light Refreshments were served to Beneficiaries at the end of the awareness programme.
Dr. L. Ravikant, ACMS, Administration, Dr. M. Jaideep ACMS, Health & Family Welfare, Officers and Nursing Staff took part in the Awareness programme Total 150 Employees/Beneficiaries took part & made this outreach programme successful.
