Divisional Hospital, Vijayawada performs Bipolar Hemiarthroplasty on 90 years old
Divisional Hospital, Vijayawada Division,
South Central Railway has successfully performed Bipolar Hemiarthroplasty (BHA).
BHA is an orthopaedic surgical procedure that is used most commonly to treat a
fracture neck of femur. In this procedure the femoral head is removed and
replaced. The surgery was performed by Dr. Murali, Orthopaedic Surgeon and
Divisional Medical Officer, and Dr. Vara Prasad, Anesthesiologist and
Divisional Medical Officer as was informed by Dr. M Sowribala, Chief Medical
Superintendent.
It is the first time that a geriatric patient
aged 93 years was operated in Divisional Railway Hospital, Vijayawada. The
operation was done yesterday i.e. on 27th December 2023 and the patient is able
to bear weight on first post-operative day i.e on 28th December 2023
with proper nursing care. The operation was successful and the patient is
recovering well. Shri Narendra A Patil, Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada
Division, South Central Railway appreciated the efforts of the team of doctors
and the nursing staff as the patient can bear the weight immediately after the
surgery.
