SCR Vigilance Team Conducts Check Against Unauthorized Vendors at Vijayawada Station

In a significant move aimed at maintaining order and ensuring passenger safety, the South Central Railway (SCR) Vigilance Team and Railway Protection Force (RPF) jointly conducted a special check against unauthorised vendors at Vijayawada Railway Station on 5th May, 2025. The operation aimed to curb unregulated vending activities, which often contributes to overcrowding, hygiene concerns, and security risks.

This check's primary objective was to eliminate unauthorised commercial activities that compromise both the commuter experience and the operational efficiency of the station. Vendors operating without proper authorisation frequently obstruct platform access, diminish service effectiveness, and, in some cases, pose safety hazards.

Strategically carried out during evening peak hours for maximum visibility and impact, the operation involved thorough verification of vendor credentials, including identity cards and vending permits. Vendors found working under licensed stallholders without proper authorisation faced penalties as per existing regulations, while those engaged in vending without any form of authorisation were subjected to enforcement action. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) registered cases under relevant provisions of the Railways Act, and legal proceedings are underway against violators. As a result of this initiative, the Railways collected approximately ₹4,65,000 in penalties.

As part of the initiative, the authorities also conducted a counselling session for authorised licensees and vendors. Authorities reiterated the terms and conditions governing licenses and permits, cautioning against unauthorised vending activities. The interaction was designed to foster responsibility and professionalism, reinforcing adherence to regulations for a disciplined station environment.

Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, South Central Railway, commended the Senior Deputy General Manager (SDGM) and Principal Chief Security Commissioner (PCSC) for the effectiveness of the drive. He emphasised that such proactive measures would deter unauthorised vending across the Zone. Stressing the importance of passenger welfare, he directed all Divisions of SCR to implement necessary actions to ensure that only authorised personnel serve quality food and services at railway premises.
