Major Milestone Achieved in Nidubrolu–Appikatla Section (Vijayawada –Gudur Route)
Ms. Madhavi, Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), South Central Circle, Ministry of Civil Aviation conducts an extensive inspection of the Appikatla – Machavaram Section (Vijayawada –Gudur Route) of Vijayawada Division, South Central Railway on 25th September 2025. The inspection aimed to assess readiness for commissioning and ensure compliance with safety standards. 2025. Shri Mohit Sonakiya, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) and Branch Officers of Vijayawada Division, accompanied her throughout the Inspection.
The last 4.918 km stretch (km 364.132–369.05) of permanent diversion of UP line in the Nidubrolu–Appikatla section of Vijayawada–Gudur route has been completed, permanently resolving the critical 10 km bad bank stretch with poor soil bearing capacity that was prone to derailments.
For over three decades, this section carried 75/90 kmph speed restrictions across 32 km on UP line, demanding continuous attention. With the new diversion and consolidation, these PSRs are now history. The improved alignment has also eased curves, enhancing track geometry.
The work involved 6 cut-and-connections in three stretches, with the final one completed today. CRS inspection today and a 140 kmph speed trial with NIL OMS peaks validated the quality.
Shri Mohit Sonakiya, DRM stated, “This landmark achievement, through seamless efforts of Engineering and TRD, has paved the way for relaxation of the long-pending 32 km PSRs on up line, ensuring enhanced safety, reliability, and higher speed potential of the section.”
