Teachers’ Day Celebrated with Enthusiasm at SCRWWO Institutions

Teachers honoured with gifts; Students and staff present cultural programmes at Jack & Jill, Asha Kiran, and E-World centres

The South Central Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (SCRWWO), Vijayawada Division, celebrated Teachers’ Day today, i.e. 4th September 2025 at Railway Auditorium, Vijayawada. SCRWWO celebrated the event with great enthusiasm including all its educational institutions, honouring the dedication and invaluable contribution of teachers in shaping young minds.

The celebrations were organised by SCRWWO including its establishments, Jack and Jill English Medium School – an institution nurturing 235 students from pre-school to Class X with the support of 19 dedicated teachers; Asha Kiran School for Differently-abled – providing inclusive education to 26 children under the guidance of 3 teachers and a helper; E-World Computer Training Centre – equipping students with digital skills and preparing them for future opportunities.

The programme began with floral tributes to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, followed by vibrant cultural performances by students of all three institutions. A highlight of the event was a play performed by the teachers of Jack and Jill School, showcasing the teacher-student bond with humour and warmth.

Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Versha Sonakiya, Vice President, SCRWWO, Vijayawada Division, who has recently taken charge, addressed the gathering. She warmly appreciated the teachers for their dedication and expressed her vision for holistic development of children through quality education. “Teachers are not only knowledge-givers but also nation-builders. Their patience, commitment, and compassion create a lasting impact on every student’s life. At SCRWWO institutions, our teachers carry forward this noble responsibility with devotion, shaping bright futures while instilling values of empathy and resilience,” she said.

Smt. Versha Sonakiya also shared her personal journey as an educator and homemaker. A science graduate (B.Sc. PCM) and postgraduate in Computer Science from Madhya Pradesh, she earlier taught computers to CA and NIIT students before dedicating time to her family life. Over the years, she has served in diverse capacities, including as a pre-nursery teacher, school in-charge, and a member of a school for special children, where she trained differently-abled students in candle-making as a source of income. Her interests include gardening, music, reading, and sports.

Reflecting on her varied experiences, she emphasised the importance of compassion in education, “Every child is unique. Our role as educators is not only to teach but also to nurture. Whether in mainstream schools or in institutions like Asha Kiran, our collective effort must be to give every child confidence, dignity, and hope,” she added.

Smt. Venna, Vice President, SCRWWO, Vijayawada Division and SCRWWO Executive Members, Ms. Nusrat M Mandrupkar, Public Relations Officer, Vijayawada Division, SCR also participated in the programme. The programme concluded with a felicitation ceremony, during which teachers from all SCRWWO-run institutions were honoured with gifts as a token of appreciation for their selfless service. The celebrations ended with refreshments for all attendees, highlighting SCRWWO’s commitment to education, inclusivity, and empowerment through its schools and training centres.
