Divisional Railway Hospital, Vijayawada Division, SCR observes World Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Awareness drive emphasises early detection and women’s health
As part of World Breast
Cancer Awareness Month (October 1–31, 2023), a special awareness programme
was conducted today, i.e. 31st October 2025, at the New OPD Block, Divisional
Railway Hospital, Vijayawada. The event aimed to promote awareness on breast
cancer prevention, early detection, and timely treatment among women. 
Dr. M. Jaideep, Additional Chief
Medical Superintendent (Health & Family Welfare), welcomed the gathering
and shared key insights on the rising incidence of breast cancer in India.
Speaking on the occasion, he highlighted this year’s theme, “Every Story is
Unique, Every Journey Matters”, emphasising that each woman’s journey with
breast cancer deserves understanding, support, and hope.
Dr. K. Lakshmi Priyadarshini,
Consultant Medical Oncologist, delivered an engaging presentation on the causes,
symptoms, early recognition, and treatment options for breast cancer. She
also demonstrated the Self-Breast Examination technique, empowering women to
take charge of their own health through awareness and regular screening.
Dr. A.V.S.K. Prasad, Chief
Medical Superintendent, Vijayawada Division, addressed the gathering and urged
women, especially those above 40 years of age, to undergo periodic health
check-ups. “Early detection is the key to effective treatment. Awareness is
the first step toward saving lives,” he stated.
The OPD premises were adorned
with pink balloons, awareness posters, and slogans, creating a vibrant
atmosphere of solidarity. Staff members wore pink ribbon emblems throughout the
month to mark their commitment to the cause.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from women employees and beneficiaries, reinforcing the message that collective awareness and regular health screenings can make a significant difference in combating breast cancer.
