Pregnant Lady Delivers Baby on Moving Train! Railway TTE comes to Rescue

On 3rd February, 2019, Smt. Sapna Devi, a pregnant lady aged 24 years along with her two kids aged 4 and 2 years was on her way to Bhagalpur from Yesvantpur, travelling in B-2 (AC Coach) of 12253 Anga Express with no adults accompanying her.

While the train was on the move and passing Tuni Railway Station, the co-passengers in B-2 Coach realized that Smt. Sapna Devi was suffering from labour pains and immediately informed to Shri K. Sanath, TTI/Sleeper/Vijayawada who was manning the AC Coaches of 12253 Anga Express.

Shri Sanath, rushed to B-2 Coach, analysed the situation and immediately informed to Commercial Controller for Medical help. But, the train has already passed Tuni Railway Station and the next best possibility of getting Medical help would be at Visakhapatnam. Knowing that reaching Visakhapatnam would be too late, Shri Sanath, requested Commercial Controller, Vijayawada to halt the train at next immediate station and arrange for ambulance. Shri Sanath also called 108 Service and requested them to attend at next station.

In reply, Shri Sanath came to know that Ambulance service can be arranged only at Elamanchili Railway Station. So, he requested Commercial Control to halt the train at Elamanchili and stressed for halting the train on Platform No.1. Commercial Controller arranged everything exactly as requested.

Moments before the train reached Elamanchili Railway Station, Smt. Sapna Devi delivered a baby boy on moving train with the help of other lady passengers. On reaching the station, Medical staff (108 Service) separated the baby from Mother and shifted them along with the her other two kids to Primary health center by Ambulance. Later, Shri Sanath after getting off duty at Visakhapatnam, came to know that Doctor at health center attended and both Mother and Baby are safe.

Shri R. Dhananjayulu, Divisional Railway Manager, Shri P. Bhaskar Reddy, Sr. Divisional Commercial Manager, other officers applauded the dedicated service and kind act of humanity showed by Shri K. Sanath, TTI/Sleeper/Vijayawada.
