Vijayawada Division sets up Exhibition Stall at Vanijya Utsavam, ‘The Exports Trade Carnival of Andhra Pradesh’




Vijayawada Division, South Central Railway has set up an Exhibition Stall showcasing the freight friendly measures and various incentive schemes offered for the benefit of Trade and Commerce Industry on 21st September 2021 at the Vanijya Utsavam being held at S.S Convention Centre, Vijayawada. Vanijya Utsavam, ‘the Exports Trade Carnival of Andhra Pradesh’, is jointly organized by the Department of Industries & Commerce AP, Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB), The Plastics Export Promotion Council of India, and the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). This platform is set up to promote trade and exports in the state and to invite industrialists for the expansion of commercial products.

Indian Railways being the lifeline of the Nation is the major freight transporter of the Country apart from passenger traffic. Indian Railways has adopted several customer-friendly transportation policies. South Central Railway has always been at the forefront while implementing the various customer-friendly transportation policies so that the freight customers can avail the benefit as envisaged in the policy. Particularly during the tough times faced by the nation on account of the COVID-19 pandemic, Indian Railways ran freight trains and parcel special trans ensuring speedy transport of essential goods and farm/Agri/aqua produce all over the country so that the crises of lockdown conditions are overcome and no shortage is reported anywhere in the country.  

On Vijayawada Division we have extended fullest co-operation and help to the parcel customers who are faced with transportation problems through the supply of indented parcel vans to the desired destinations viz. Howrah, Guwahati, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, etc., and in case of small customers, provided space in the parcel express trains that are being run to those destinations. During the year 2021-22, traffic under the Kisan Rail scheme, meant for transportation of fruits and vegetables started on our division where the customer pays only 50% freight and the balance 50% amount is granted as subsidy.  Kisan Rail is loaded to destinations like New Delhi, Chitpur, Malda town, Changasri, Jorhat, Tinsukia, etc. to promote both piecemeal and full train load traffic. Indian Railways offers transportation of parcels in vehicles of different capacities, viz. 4 Tonnes SLRs, 23 Tonne/24 Tonne Parcel vans, 10 Tonnes GS coaches, Refrigerated parcel vans, RO-RO (Roll-On, Roll-Off) Model.  

In the freight segment, various attractive schemes are available like under Terminal empty Flow direction, Station to Station scheme, up to 50% concession for short lead traffic, Liberalised Wagon Investment Scheme, Freight forwarders Scheme, concessions for short and long lead traffic, and various schemes to boost the traffic and loading capacity.

Shri Shivendra Mohan, Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada appreciated the efforts of Shri P. Bhaskar Reddy, Sr. DCM; Shri G. Somasekhar Naidu, DCM; Ms. Nusrat Mandrupkar, PRO and Commercial staff for setting up an aesthetically rich and brilliant stall showcasing the freight-friendly transportation policies at the Trade Expo. He also lauded the efforts of Divisional and Field Level BDU teams for their exceptional performance by attracting new traffic and commodities.
