National Girl Child Day celebrated across Vijayawada Division
South Central Railway, Vijayawada Division celebrated ‘National Girl Child Day’ at Divisional Railway Auditorium, Vijayawada on 24th January, 2022. Smt. Jaya Mohan, President, South Central Women’s Welfare Organization, Vijayawada graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Shri D. Srinivasa Rao, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Infrastructure and District Chief Commissioner, South Central Railway is the Guest of Honour.
As a part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of people, culture and achievements, Government of India has decided to celebrate the "National Girl Child Day" every year on 24th January. National Girl Child Day was first initiated in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. The main objective of the National Girl Child Day is to raise awareness and tackle the issues of inequalities that girls face in the country and enlighten everyone about the rights of a girl child and to promote the importance of their education, health, and nutrition. The day is in line with with government campaigns and initiatives such as ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’, ‘Save the Girl Child’, free/subsidized education, and reservations in colleges and universities.
At the outset, Smt. Jaya Mohan, President, SCRWWO, Vijayawada, Smt. D. Sridevi, Vice President, SCRWWO, Vijayawada and Shri D. Srinivasa Rao, ADRM, Infrastructure inaugurated the event and took part in the lamp lighting ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, Smt Jaya Mohan, President, SCRWWO, Vijayawada said that today is the day to renew our commitment toward providing equal opportunities to our girls and celebrate the accomplishments of our daughters as we collectively pledge to bridge the gender divide to build an inclusive & equal society. She said that Gender discrimination is a major problem that girls face throughout their life and it is high time to realize our mistakes and stop bias against girl child and strive for level playing field and equal opportunity. She also said that sky is the limit for women potential and would create wonders with their dedication and commitment in independent India. She said that our main focus is to ensure dignity, respect as well as opportunities to the girl child. She wished the 1847 Female employees of the Division and advised them to continue ahead with sheer grit determination and commitment and providing their valuable service to the society.
Shri D. Srinivasa Rao, ADRM, Infrastructure said that National Girl Child Day is an occasion to reiterate our commitment and further strengthen ongoing efforts to empower the girl child. ADRM said that the main focus is to change the society’s attitude towards girls, decrease female feticide and create awareness about the decreasing sex ratio.
Smt. Jaya Mohan, President, SCRWWO, Vijayawada distributed awards to the students of essay writing and poster painting competition from Jack & Jill school, Vijayawada. A short film “Ningi Nela Naadhe” (Sky is the Limit) presented by the Personnel Department, Vijayawada Division was dedicated on the occasion which drew an overwhelming response from the gathering. A virtual link of the event was shared with all the employees of the Division to join in the celebrations. 12 female employees from various parts of the Division gave their valuable speech through online on the occasion.
Shri M. Bala Muralidhar, Sr. Divisional Personnel Officer, Vijayawada thanked the gathering and congratulated all the distinguished speakers for delivering valuable speech on this great occasion. Shri Saila Sudhakar, APO proposed vote of thanks and concluded the event. Smt Shivani Kapur, DFM; Shri Asha Mahesh Kumar, RBA; Shri Sk Shabhaz, APO; Ms. Nusrat M Mandrupkar, PRO; Smt. Usha, Secretary, Jack & Jill School, Other officers and staff participated in the event.
Electric loco Shed, Vijayawada & MEMU Car Shed, Rajahmundry
Essay and Elocution competitions were also conducted at Electric Loco Shed, Vijayawada and MEMU Car Shed, Rajahmundry in view of National Girl child day. Employees enthusiastically participated in the events. Certificates and prizes have been distributed to the winners of the event. Awareness campaigns were conducted across the Division.
