Civil Defence Organisation, SCR celebrates Civil Defence Annual Day
Conducts Mock Drill at Vijayawada Railway Station
Civil Defence Organization (CDO), South Central Railway, celebrated the 61st Civil Defence Annual Day today, i.e., 07th December, 2023 at Vijayawada Railway Station circulating area. Shri Narendra A. Patil, Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada Division, SCR graced the occasion as Chief Guest. As part of Annual Day Celebrations, CDO in association with staff of Vijayawada Division held a mock drill on basic life saving measures and rescue operations. Shri D. Srinivasa Rao, ADRM, Infrastructure, Shri M. Srikanth, ADRM, Operations and Shri KLN Swamy, Deputy Controller of Civil Defence & ADGM, CDO/SCR supervised the relief and rescue operations performed by the CDO Personnel. Passengers, Commuters and Media Personnel gathered in huge numbers to witness the mock drill.
The Basic objective of conducting this Mock Drill is
to train the staff to play vital role in extrication methods by rending First
Aid at the spot and moving them to nearest hospital for treatment by saving
previous life & minimizing causalities during any untoward incidents. As
part of Basic Civil Defence training, CDO team has already organized four
training camps across the SCR Zone and currently imparting basic life saving
measures and rescue operations to Vijayawada Division staff and general public.
At the outset, Shri Narendra A. Patil, DRM hoisted the Civil Defence Flag in the presence of Railway Staff and CDO team. The Mock Drill exercise started at 11.10 hours with the permission of Chief Guest. Around 150 CDO Personnel and Railway staff took part in the rescue and extrication operations. This Mock drill exercise took off with sudden bomb blast in a political rally leading to many casualties. CDO Personnel and Railway staff immediately swung into action and started the rescue and relief operations to save the injured in Golden Hour. This mock drill is aimed at dealing with immediate emergency conditions, protect the public and restore vital services and facilities that have been destroyed or damaged by disaster.
Interacting with media, Shri Narendra A. Patil, DRM, congratulated the efforts of Civil Defence Organization, SCR for imparting valuable lessons to staff in ground rescue methods, fire fighting techniques, first aid, basic life support and rescue extrication methods etc. The DRM highlighted the importance of Civil Defence basic training in daily life and in saving lives without wasting precious time. He suggested the Branch Officers to pursue all the staff for getting enrolled voluntarily in the Civil Defence Organization. DRM pointed that at the time of crisis, calamity Railways always played a mighty role in supplying logistics, relief material and transportation of passengers. DRM quoted various emergency incidents such as Partition of India, India-China War, Bhuj and Latur earthquake, Bhopal Gas Tragedy and Corona crisis, where Indian Railways played an indispensible role in saving lives and transit of essential commodities/medicines. DRM appealed to the retired Railway staff to pursue & join Civil Defence Organization to get acquainted with basic life saving techniques rendering first aid and also to stay fit and lead a active healthy life. Shri Narendra A. Patil announced Group Cash award of Rs.50,000 to Civil Defence Organization for their outstanding demonstration.

Srikanth, ADRM, Operations appreciated the CDO Team for holding the Mock Drill
and educating the travelling public and Railway staff in dealing with emergency
situations. Shri T. Sudheer Babu, Sr.CDI, SCR, Headquarters proposed vote of
thanks and concluded. Vijayawada Division Officers, CDO Team, Bharat Scouts
& Guides, Other Supervisors and staff were present.
