Hon’ble President of India Presents “National Energy Conservation Awards” on the “National Energy Conservation Day”
Wagon Depot, Vijayawada Division bags First Prize
in Railway Workshops Category
The Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu
presented the National Energy Conservation Awards in New Delhi today i.e., 14th
December, 2023 on the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day 2023. On this occasion, Wagon
Depot of Vijayawada Division, South Central Railway has been awarded with First
Prize in National Energy Conservation Awards - 2023 in Railway Workshops
Sector.
These awards were presented in a function held by the
Bureau of Energy Efficiency under the aegis of Ministry of Power, Government of
India at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Shri R. K. Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister of
Power, New & Renewable Energy and Shri Krishan Pal, Hon’ble Minister of
State for Power & Heavy Industries also graced the occasion. These awards
are declared for the best energy management practices to encourage saving
energy, help reduce carbon footprint and bring down the energy intensity in the
country.
Shri
Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, SCR along with Shri Narendra A Patil,
Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada Division received the first prize for
Wagon Depot, Vijayawada,
received the award from Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu today at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
Wagon Depot, Vijayawada is
one of the Major sheds on South Central Railways for attending to all types of sick
wagons and also for Routine Over Hauling (ROH) of different Wagons like BOXN,
BCN, BCNHL, etc. The Area Training Centre in ROH Depot imparts training to newly
recruited staff of Vijayawada and Guntur Divisions, in addition to staff of
other departments like Operating and Engineering. Wagon Depot, Vijayawada
adopted various Energy Conservation measures in recent times to reduce energy
consumption.

LED lights in place of conventional lights lead to saving of 11,498
units
·
BLDC fans in place of conventional fans lead to saving of 4,608 units
·
Perplex sheets for utilizing natural daylight
·
Replacement of over-aged, high power consuming electrical equipment with
energy-efficient/ star-rated equipment
·
Timers for water coolers
·
Daily, monthly and annual energy consumption targets and their active monitoring
·
Standardisation and adoption of appropriate energy efficient design /
innovative technology
·
Energy audits by self and/or by third party on regular basis to identify
the areas having potential of saving of electrical energy and to minimize the
energy losses
·
Conducting seminars and debates among Staff to educate in adapting
energy efficient measures.
